Many think of Hokkaido and immediately think of grand winter landscapes and skiing opportunities. In the summer though, Hokkaido is a different kind of beautiful.

The flower fields in particular, that bloom in all different colours, have become a mainstay of any Hokkaido travel brochure for the summer.

However, nature is a fickle thing, and just like the beautiful cherry blossoms that bloom all over the world with the arrival of spring, they reach full bloom for a while and disappear soon after. Unfortunately, we visited Hokkaido at the end of summer, meaning most of summer's blooms were gone by the time we were there.

Not Shikisai No Oka though, a very touristy flower field which is admittedly, a must-do on any traveller's itinerary, as it prides itself on having blooms throughout different times of the year, so even at the tail end of summer, I managed to catch this hill of blooms and their vibrant colours.
