Bloom Coffee: Gorgeous Beige Coffeehouse at Siglap

The East Coast has always been a hotspot for brunch cafes and bustling coffeehouses, mostly saturated around the busy areas of Katong and Joo Chiat.

In recent months though, the quiet corner of Siglap has seen a real emergence— with the new Five Oars Coffee Roasters located on the same street as Chanterelle Cafe, Blu Kouzina Siglap, Flor Patisserie East Coast, La Fez, and Craftsmen Specialty Coffee (Siglap), just to name a few.

The newest player on the block is Bloom Coffee, which took over the space once occupied by Stamping Ground Coffee.

There’s a pet-friendly alfresco area (a common feature of many cafes in the East, I find), as well as an air-conditioned indoor area for dining.

Push through the glass doors and you’ll be greeted with a gorgeous sand-coloured interior, with minimalist wooden furniture and warm lighting.

However, because the air-conditioning units are closer inside, on a typically warm afternoon, the tables near the door do still feel quite warm.

Here’s where you’ll find coffee and sangas— Aussie slang for sandwiches, that is.

It seems many have already caught on, as the outlet was running at full capacity on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

In fact, it was so busy that the ice machine couldn’t keep up, and they ran out of ice when I wanted to place my order.

We had a 5oz Flat White (S$5) and Matcha Latte (S$6.50), and they were both good!

I would’ve wanted to explore their more interesting drinks, like the Yuzu Cardamom Lemonade (S$7.50), Matcha Lemonade (S$7.50), and Yuzu Basil Kombucha (S$7.50), but those are only available as iced options.

Over on the food side of things, they have five sangas on offer, namely the Tonkatsu (S$18), Grilled Mushroom & Eggplant (S$17), Tamagoyaki Avocado Bacon (S$18), Sloppy Bob (S$17), and PB & Strawberry Basil (S$15).

We opted for the Tamagoyaki Avocado Bacon as it looked the most interesting, and it was served with smashed avocado, grilled bacon, tamagoyaki, Japanese mayo, and basil yoghurt sauce.

It was definitely unique, though I personally felt the sourness of the basil yoghurt sauce, as well as the taste of pepper was a little too strong for me, but in saying that, there was a good mix of flavours overall. If the flavours were a bit more balanced, I think this would’ve been perfect.

If you’re not up for sangas, they have Shoestring Fries which begin at S$10, with an option to top up S$2 for truffle.

If not, they do granola bowls as well at S$12.

Do note though, food is only served till 4pm, and by 3:30pm, my Tamagoyaki Avocado Bacon sanga order was the last of the day.

Overall, this strikes me more as a place to grab coffee and a quick bite, rather than one to have a hearty meal.

Service was friendly, the vibes were immaculate, and I certainly enjoyed the aesthetics.

It’s not hard to see why it’s already become such a hit, and I certainly wouldn’t mind dropping by again someday.
