One of the things I wasn’t expecting to find while living in the medieval city of Ghent in Belgium for a year, was an unassuming street of blossoming cherry blossom trees. This street behind Bijloke bursts into colour come Spring, and I spent many evenings just walking through the street and admiring the blooms.

This saying of ‘well, nothing in nature blooms all year’ reminded me of the idea that we tend to be so hard on ourselves— constantly hustling, constantly grinding, constantly feeling like we have to keep pursuing and achieving our goals. If anything, living abroad in a much smaller city has taught me a lot in terms of slowing down and appreciating the present.

So whenever you feel lesser than anyone else, remember that your time will come. Your spring will come, so take the time to simply enjoy the rest of your seasons.
