Erfurt is just under 2 hours away from Berlin on the train, and is a complete world away from the hustle and bustle of Berlin. If you’ll have heard anything about Germany, you’re likely to have heard of the world famous Christmas markets.

I visited during Christmas week, and between the stunning old town, pastel-coloured buildings, Christmas fairy lights and medieval bridge lined with half-timbered shops and houses, this town was like something out of a fairytale.
