Hvala Craig Road: Popular Matcha Teahouse Opens a Vegan-Focused Outlet

As someone quite keen on matcha, I’ve often visited Hvala at the beautiful Chijmes outlet.

In a short span of time though, it feels like the Hvala group has expanded quite quickly, with outlets popping up at TripleOne Somerset, Keong Saik, and now, a fourth one at Craig Rd, minutes away from their Keong Saik outpost.

Here, all their menu items are completely vegan, and do not contain any dairy products, which is incredibly impressive.

Especially because the menu here is huge, starting with Warabi Mochi (S$4.80), and on to heartier desserts like Dairy-Free Waffles (S$11.80), brownies like the Matcha Blondie with Gelato (S$12.80), Sliced Cakes (S$9.80) in a variety of flavours like Goma, Banana Peanut Butter Walnut, Hojicha etc., scoops of gelato, soy tea lattes, ice blends and much more.

Coming up with a menu that is already so well-loved and established by the other Hvala outlets, and seeking vegan alternatives for a menu this comprehensive is admirable, and I’m happy to say I loved the actual menu offerings here as much as I did at their other outlets.

Here, you also get three options for matcha latte, Yuki Matcha (S$5.80), Kaze Matcha (S$10.80) and Hana Matcha (S$12.80), with a top up of S$1 to have it iced.

I had a scoop of the Hojicha Gelato (S5.80), and I loved how smooth and creamy it was. The Hojicha items at Hvala have always been light and refreshing, never too overpowering in their roasted or nutty tones. This was thankfully more of the same.

As for the actual space, this outlet looks a bit like you’ve wandered into an art gallery, with tasteful pieces adorning the clean white walls.

Natural daylight pours in from overhead in the middle of the cafe, and these elements imbue a lightness to the space.

It’s no wonder that Hvala has become a go-to for all things matcha-flavoured in Singapore, and the Craig Rd outpost is another great addition to the scene— it’s no wonder they have to strictly enforce a one hour dine-in limit, especially when eager diners start forming queues at the door of this cosy outlet.
