Little Rogue Coffee: Spacious Brunch Cafe Along the East Coast

Another cafe along the East Coast, you say?

Meet Little Rogue Coffee, a new cafe along Tanjong Katong Road.

With a floor space big enough for a playpen in the middle of the cafe for the young ones (closed for now due to the ongoing pandemic), a rack for those with bicycles, and plenty of seats available, you won’t have to worry too much about waiting ages for a table, at least not on weekdays.

Supposedly, the name Little Rogue is inspired by the children of the cafe owners, which also explains the playpen.

The cafe is not air conditioned, but the wide open shopfront and ceiling fans help make Little Rogue feel breezy rather than uncomfortable and stifling.

You’ll find plants everywhere you turn in this cafe, and the use of bookshelves as decor, as well as the aforementioned playpen and bicycle parking spot in the cafe contribute to a homely atmosphere, and gives the place plenty character.

There are several bakes on display on the counter, but they do have quite a decent menu selection.

Breakfast is served all day from 9am, where recommended dishes include the Soft Scrambled Eggs & Ikura (S$14) and Sourdough Cheese Toastie (S$16).

From 11am, mains are available; and their signature dishes are the Bacon Wrapped Prawns Risotto (S$25), K Pop Chicken Burger (S$23) and Ribeye Steak and Egg (S$30), so props to them for not taking the safe option and actually coming up with interesting dishes.

There’s even a kids menu here.

It’s truly nice to see a cafe actively cater to parents, and it’ll be nice to see the cafe in proper swing with the playpen open once we’re finally out of this pandemic, hopefully... soon.

We had the Spiced Chicken Panini with House Sauce (S$16) from the mains menu.

Complete with rosemary fries, which were crispy and not too oily, the chicken was thankfully not dry.

Overall, the portion was pretty decent.

It wasn’t exceptional in taste but as far as sandwiches go, it was more than decent.

The Breakfast Toast (S$12) featured two slices of sourdough, topped with grilled asparagus and an egg.

This dish was a bit of a miss for me, though, as I would have like the asparagus to have a bit more of a crunch, and there wasn’t enough egg yolk / sauce to balance the amount of toast, so it felt a little dry overall.

Coffee is sourced from Proud Mary by Ballad of Anna May, and we had the Iced Mocha (S$7.50) and Iced Latte (S$6.50).

I quite like the vibe of Little Rogue, and it felt a lot more laid back compared to many other cafes around on the island. The spaciousness of the place, ample daylight, and homely touches in decor all helped contribute to this easygoing ambience.

We ended up staying for the whole afternoon.

The wide open shop floor also meant the cafe never got too noisy to have a conversation, which was lovely.

While the food this go around was just alright for me, I wouldn’t be averse to coming back to try their popular dishes which seem to be a hit with others who have been, or at least not go for the toast or bread dishes.

Little Rogue is a lovely place to be, and exudes a casual, breezy charm.

And with the ability to cater to little ones and fitness enthusiasts (cyclists, if nothing else, ha), Little Rogue Coffee is off to a great start at a prime brunching location.
