While visiting the eastern French city of Lyon for the first time, we took a stroll down the river promenade where the sun was beating down on us, in one of the first few bits of good weather at the turn of summer after a typically grey winter and cold, rainy spring.

After living through my first Belgian winter, I realised how much sunlight affects your mood. It’s something I never thought much about growing up in Singapore, it is a tropical island after all. But when you start getting sunny days like these in this part of the world, you realise how much everyone just wants to be out. People watching then, leads to photos like these.

I spotted this old couple just sitting on a bench, taking in their surroundings. This scene in particular, just felt like something out of a slice of life type of movie. And it’s one of my favourite photos I took in Lyon.
