Edith Patisserie Cake Bar: Cakes, Honey Soft Serve and Waffles at Dhoby Ghaut

Good news for those who are regularly in town, the Insta-popular bakery Edith Patisserie has opened their first dine-in outlet at the ground floor of the UBS Building at Penang Rd, a short walk from the Dhoby Ghaut MRT station.

If that name sounds familiar, it’s because they’ve been around! Their original North Bridge Road outlet functions as a takeaway stand.

The new strip of F&B outlets at UBS Building has brought in quite a bustling crowd, especially after office hours. In fact, just several doors down is the new minimalist white coffee bar by the name of Degree Celsius.

Inside Edith Patisserie’s newest outlet, you’ll find grey concrete walls complemented by beige and light wood furniture. Alongside accents of deep green and plants dotted around, this 25-seater space provides an environment both soothing for the eye and pleasing for the ‘gram.

As you walk in through the glass doors, you’ll find the array of bakes in the display. Not only can you get sliced cakes here, whole cakes are also available.

Flavours here are interesting, as they have always been, like Thai Milk Tea and Matcha Boba.

We decided to opt for more ‘traditional’ flavours in the end, with a slice of the Classic Chocolate (S$8) and Raspberry Passionfruit (S$8).

The Classic Chocolate was delightfully rich with a moist sponge. Thankfully, it wasn’t too sweet, and thus it wasn’t overly cloying after a while. This will definitely please the most ardent of chocolate lovers.

The Raspberry Passionfruit had a similarly heavy sponge, and perhaps it’s because I’ve become a little too accustomed to Japanese-style pastries lately that I was initially surprised at how heavy it was. I’m definitely a bigger fan of cakes that are lighter on the palette, but hearty cake lovers will definitely like Edith Patisserie’s take on this fruit-flavoured cake. The moist sponge balanced well with the buttercream, with the sharpness of the raspberry and passionfruit mix cutting through nicely.

Aside from cakes, Edith Patisserie also does other mouthwatering desserts like Chocolate Waffles (S$13), Matcha Terrine (S$17), Mixed Berries Waffles (S$13), Mini Basque Cheesecake (S$13) and of course, their Signature Honey Soft Serve (S$4).

To accompany your desserts, you can order a selection of coffees and teas.

We had a Latte with Oat Milk (S$7) and an Iced Matcha Latte (S$6), the latter of which was quite milky.

Considering Edith Patisserie has been around for years, and one of my birthday cakes has been from this bakery, it’s nice to see them growing and expanding as a business. Fans of hearty cakes keen on trying out unique, interesting flavours will definitely love that there’s a new place in town for afternoon tea, and I won’t be surprised if this new outlet starts getting really busy soon.

My only gripe— and this is one I wasn’t expecting to have when I first walked in, is that the counter for payment is located facing the wall, away from the bakes. And while, I suppose, other establishments have been flexible in taking orders over the display and settling payment after, I was ushered over to the register to place my order as well, which meant I had to shuffle between the glass display near the door and the register at the corner of the cafe to get the names of the cakes I wanted.

I’ll put that down to teething issues for a new outlet, but the layout of everything could have been a little more convenient so customers can order the cakes as they’re looking and browsing through options in the display.
