Trapeze Rec. Club: New Pastel Cafe Hidden in Wellness Club

If you have a penchant for pastel-coloured interiors, you have to visit Trapeze Rec. Club at Tanjong Pagar. It’s primarily a wellness club with several stories, featuring a curation of services like a yoga studio, gym, outdoor sauna, cold plunge, reflexology lounge and more, but hidden away on the second floor is a dreamy new cafe concept called the Canteen.

Naturally, considering it’s location, you can expect the selection of food and drinks here to lean more towards a healthier diet, not entirely unlike Necessary Provisions at Tanglin, which is also decked out in shades of pastel.

As they don’t have a full-fledged kitchen, the menu here is pretty lean.

You’ll find yoghurt bowls both sweet and savoury, a selection of toasts, and açai bowls on offer.

Recommended on the yoghurt bowls section of the menu is the Spicy Dan Dan (S$14.80), which features Greek yoghurt, Japanese cucumber, peanut butter, sesame, chilli oil, coriander, sous vide egg, and sourdough.

We decided to play it safe instead and go for the Hummus Avocado (S$14.80) and Smashed Avocado (S$14.80) toasts.

Of the two, I’d recommend opting for the Hummus Avocado seeing as they’re priced the same. The almond butter hummus goes well with the creamy avocado, and the chilli oil topping provides a nice kick to the dish flavour-wise. My only gripe was that the slice of sourdough was toasted for a tad too long as the crust was a little tough to cut into.

The Smashed Avocado was perfectly serviceable, if not a little plain next to the Hummus Avocado.

The sourdough of the latter also had similar over toasting issues, but nothing too major.

A single shot of Espresso begins at S$3.80, but their iced coffee menu looked a lot more interesting.

You’ll find Espresso Tonic (S$6.80), that being a double shot of espresso, tonic water and lemon; Cascara Espresso (S$6.80), which serves up a single shot of espresso and cascara tea; and lastly the Oat Shakerato (S$8) which is a double shot espresso served with oat milk and honey.

I opted for the last option, and while I’ve had iterations of this coffee order at places like Forty Hands, I felt Trapeze’s take on this was a little less sweet.

Of course, you’ll also find smoothies, kombucha, cold pressed juices, and coconut water amongst others.

On a sunny day, you can even sit outdoors, and is likely where you’ll have seen many Instagrammers posting photos from.

Unfortunately it was a wet day when I visited, but it still looked pretty nice.

The cafe at Trapeze Rec. Club definitely caters more to those attending their classes at the other studios within the building, and not necessarily a place to go to for a hearty brunch.

But if you can’t get enough of cafes in these pastel shades, you can add Trapeze Rec. Club as a coffee stop the next time you’re in Tanjong Pagar, alongside PRAIRIE by Craftsmen (River Valley, Bukit Timah), Neptune, the aforementioned Necessary Provisions, Greek joint Éla, the newly refurbished Habitat Coffee, and the list truly does goes on and on.
